Properties of Membranes from the Halophyte Suaeda maritima: II. DISTRIBUTION AND PROPERTIES OF ENZYMES IN ISOLATED MEMBRANE FRACTIONS

journal contribution
posted on 2023-06-08, 11:29 authored by Tim Flowers, J L Hall
Membrane fractions from the shoots of Suaeda maritima have been separated by sucrose gradient centrifugation. Certain staining and enzymatic activities were studied with the aim of identifying specific membrane types, particularly the plasma membrane. Chloroplast and mitochondrial membranes were largely distributed in the denser regions of the gradient (? 1.16). A plasma membrane fraction was not easily identifiable and the problems of separating these membranes from plant cells are discussed.
