Understandings of education in an African village: the impact of information and communication technologies (ethnographic study)
book
posted on 2023-06-08, 09:11 authored by John Pryor, Joseph Ghartey AmpiahThis book describes a DFID funded project researching the meaning of education for the the inhabitants of a rural village in Ghana. The approach involved an innovative form of collaborative ethnography with fieldwork taking place over 15 months. During this period villagers had their first opportunity to interact with digital media and so the possibilities afforded by ICTs for education could be appraised. Findings about rural education and the nature of community participation have important implications for educational policy and practice. The theorization of rural people's encounters with new technology is significant for those working with ICTs in poor communities. I receive regular enquiries from people in many different countries concerning this work. DFID research outputs are subjected to peer review before publication.
