Notes
The effects of breathing do affect the heart sound heard by a stethoscope. The blood flow changes and alters the timings of valve closures. This study looks specifically at patients from Royal Sussex County Hospital (under guidance of Dr.Hind and Prof.R.Vincent, cardiologists) with aortic stenosis and use time-frequency techniques to display the results more effectively. This work worked in parallel with the SME Staplethorne Ltd. who received a DTI SMART feasibility-study award (South West Office Ref DC/GEN/1477) of £45k to develop HeartSound, a patient monitoring device combining hardware and software, completed in December 2002.Full text available
