Black milk: imagining slavery in the visual cultures of Brazil and America

book
posted on 2023-06-07, 22:04 authored by Marcus Wood
This book provides an in-depth analysis of the visual archives that effloresced around slavery in Brazil and North America in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. In its latter stages, the book also explores the very different ways in which the museum cultures of North America and Brazil have constructed slavery over the last hundred years. The book forces the vast visual archives generated within the two greatest Nations of the Atlantic slave Diaspora to talk to each other, historically, creatively, and emotionally, for the first time.
