Notes

Work based on first solar assisted electric car developed in Sri Lanka with the financial assistance of Korea and University of Moratuwa. The project was also awarded with the National Transport Award for the best innovation. The vehicle developed is a two -seater city car that is driven by a DC electric motor. The electricity is supplied by a 48V battery bank. The batteries can be charged using four 25.5W, 1.47A solar panels that are fixed on the body of the vehicle or by using household electricity supply. The vehicle is designed to have a maximum speed of 40 km/hr and range of 40 km. The battery can be charged with main electricity within approximately six hours and within six days using solar power. It has a single forward speed and a reverse gear. This paper presented the design details and performance parameters measured during testing of the vehicle.
