Tracing the Impact of Science in the Knowledge-Driven Economy: The case of a small European country
report
posted on 2023-06-07, 19:57 authored by Martin MeyerThis paper addresses the issue of how science-technology interaction can be measured in the knowledge-driven economy. More specifically, it compares the patent citation indicator to other patent or publication-based measures using data on a small European economy. In particular, patent citation pat-terns will be compared to researcher patents. Comparing the two indicators suggests different patterns of science-technology linkage. An analysis of re-vealed technology contributions of academic inventors and a survey-based analysis of technological collaboration and knowledge transfer points to a possible explanation. Finally, the paper illustrates that academic inventions form a better basis for cross-country comparisons of inventive academic ac-tivity than do university(-owned) patents.
