Notes
This article began life as a refereed conference paper (AERA) which was subjected to further refereeing by the editors and subsequently sent out to review with the complete book draft. It is significant in that it deals with the otherwise unresearched topic of the functioning of student councils in basic schools in Ghana, West Africa. The research was carried out by a team of Ghanaian researchers led by Pryor as part of a capacity building project in qualitative research in education. Data are subjected to analysis using Bourdieu's field theory and Foucault's notion of governmentality, and related to the changing political discourses in a country embracing democracy. The theorization within the context of globalization gives it wider implications.Full text available
