T500 and T1000 HP Compressor Rear Cone Read Across Study DNS112860

report
posted on 2023-06-07, 19:10 authored by Peter Childs, Alexander Pett
The aim of this project was to provide state of the art modelling guidance for heat transfer within the Trent 500 and Trent 1000 high pressure compressor drive cones. All relevant data which the University of Sussex has in its possession regarding the flow within a cone drive section has been collated and summarised in this report. A significant proportion of this data is a product of A. Alexioub

Notes

The aim of this project was to provide state of the art modelling guidance for heat transfer within the Trent 500 and Trent 1000 Rolls-Royce aero-engine high pressure compressor drive cones for the Airbus A380 and Boeing Dreamliner respectively. Experimental data was analysed and scaled up to allow the data to be "read-across" to the Rolls-Royce thermal models of the two engines to help improve boundary condition modelling within the internal air system. Peter Childs was the lead academic and supervisor for this research. The research was undertaken as part of project work for both engines and delivered on time.
