Abstract

Discusses the growth of illegal online sales of prescription drugs in China, and concerns over search engines directing consumers to unethical or unlawful websites. Examines the profit-based model used by the Baidu search engine, the factors fuelling the sale of such drugs, and the US responses to the problem. Considers why a multi-pronged approach is needed to change the approach of search engines, and what this might entail.
