Abstract
Investigates the possibilities for high bandwidth optical data communications to support city wide data communications to enable smart cities. Then looks at the software/middle-ware infrastructure required to support city wide applications using service oriented architecture (SOA) and SCA. Examples of security and social support applications are described.
