The research described in this chapter is concerned with the role supply chain managers of manufacturing companies can play in environmental initiatives in the supply chains of their companies. Given the increasing economic importance of the purchasing function, a detailed examination is made of the three elements that constitute supply chain management: the management of the transformation of materials, the management of information flows and the management of supply chain relationships.
