The article looks at the efforts of colleges and universities to deliver more civic-oriented discussions and debate classes. Citizenship training is being incorporated into Public Affairs and Political Science courses. Pedagogies that seek to engage students into famous political debates of the past are gaining momentum at colleges across the U.S., notably via the Reacting to the Past curriculum developed at Barnard College. The International Society for Exploring Teaching and Learning (ISETL) and the Teaching Professor Conference are sponsoring workshops to train professors to become debate moderators.
