Feeding inhibition by glucose loads, compared between normal and diabetic rats

journal contribution
posted on 2023-06-08, 20:09 authored by D A Booth
Doses of glucose, fructose or mannose intragastrically, or glucose intraperitoneally, inhibit feeding in intact rats, even when the solutions are not hypertonic. In hyperphagic, polydipsic and glucosuric streptozotocin-treated rats, the inhibition is attenuated beyond detection at the same doses of glucose, while fructose and mannose effects remain. The loss of postabsorptive glucose-induced satiety in chronically diabetic rats is attributed to the changed disposal of glucose after prolonged absence of insulin.
