Projection-operator route to the generalized darken equation

The generalized Darken equation (GDE) for collective diffusion in lattice gases is derived in the framework of the Mori projection-operator technique. It is shown that the GDE is obtained if the dynamical correlations between successive transitions in the lattice gas are not taken into account.
