Abstract

The article discusses the culture of radio broadcasting including local variation in program making and the diversity in listening practices. The article cites Kathy Battles of Oakland University, Michigan, who states that there is an overemphasis on stability in radio broadcasting rather than the constantly changing and complex relationships that are behind every broadcast. Subjects of the article also include the cultural history of radio broadcasting, radio personality Tom Vernon and his show "Fat Man on a Bicycle," and the programming of Radio 4 in Great Britain.
