What happens to abstracts accepted for poster presentation at EAACI Congresses?

Research presentations at scientific meetings allow researchers to share work with the scientific community and obtain feedback. They also enable researchers to develop their scientific profile and contact potential collaborators. Abstracts accepted for poster presentation are not always presented. Some are formally withdrawn, but often the allocated space is left unoccupied. This is frustrating for congress organizers, and for delegates wanting to see the promised data. While some nonappearances may reflect last-minute changes of plan, other economic and cultural factors may also be operating. Some conferences publish abstracts in citable journals: academic societies need to audit this process to assure the integrity of their publication process, not least because there is a risk authors may use abstract publication to avoid going through the peer-review process.
