Tourism is a complex phenomenon, which needs to be approached through multiple scientific and methodological tools. This essay presents some reflections emerged from an ethnographic research devoted to investigate the representations and misinterpretations produced by tourism operators and tourists concerning contemporary Cambodia as a touristic destination, principally biased by its ancient heritage of Angkor and its recent genocidal events. This twosome in fact links together significant events related to Cambodian history, but risks to influence the comprehension of contemporary Cambodian culture and society.
