Understanding collegiality: The changing Oxbridge model

With particular reference to the Universities of Oxford and Cambridge, this paper analyses interpretations of the collegiate tradition. It examines past interpretations of the tradition, the pressures that have led to its reformulation and assesses the likelihood of its survival in the future. The paper assumes that both academic demos and intellectual collegiality should be central characteristics of any institution that intends to call itself a university.
