Abstract

The university educational market consists of many aspects including research, teaching, housing, and catering. Of these a department is predominantly concerned with research and teaching, and so this report focuses on the later. During the research, university staff (managers and administrators), and anthropology departmental heads, staff and graduate students were interviewed. The report sets out the background to the research, methodological issues and difficulties experienced. This is followed by the initial feedback report posted on the project website that presents some of the opinions and experiences of those who had been interviewed by April 2010. Finally these responses are contextualised against the literature on educational markets in order to consider the implications of these markets for anthropology.
