Contrary to a large body of literature on `clusters, this paper in a leading geography journal argues that knowledge related to innovation diffuses in a highly selective manner among geographically proximate firms. Using comparative case studies from Italy and Chile, the paper shows that `absorptive capacity is necessary and can be measured for predicting knowledge flows.Full text available
