Not Quite Sisters. Women with Learning Difficulties and Social Policy

book
posted on 2023-06-08, 08:19 authored by Mary Stuart
At the heart of this book are women’s accounts of their lives with the nuns who cared for them, which together provide a unique record of daily life in a convent for women with learning disabilities. The book also examines the issues surrounding the closure of the convent, and looks at the historical role of religious organisations in the provision of care. The author gathered the material for this book during eight years of working with a group of women with learning disabilities who had lived in convents all their lives.
