This chapter begins by presenting the three main questions addressed in this book: how solidarity can be meaningfully theorized for the modern EU context, the extent to which solidarity manifests itself (actually or potentially) in EU policies and relations between the EU and member states, and how far forms of solidarity might be translated into a lived experience through institutional practices and governance models. An overview of the subsequent chapters is then presented.
