Notes
Originality: The first attempt Sampson is aware of to quantify the degree to which alternative parse evaluation metrics succeed in capturing pretheoretic concepts of parsing accuracy. Rigour: Based on detailed statistical analysis, using original software, of a significant quantity of real-life data. Significance: Parsing is commonly seen as the central natural-language-processing technology, so improving our assessment of the accuracy of parsing techniques is crucial. Impact: The software produced for the task is published via anonymous ftp, is regularly downloaded (14 times in a three-month test period in early 2006), and has been further developed by an employee of a US national education testing service.Full text available
