Additional Information:	The original contribution of this paper consists primarily of its methodology, being based on equal numbers of interviews/questionnaires with UK partners, foreign partners and HQ managers of the international joint ventures studied. The analysis of responses shows high agreement between each type of respondent but a seeming lack of awareness on their part of the extent of conflict between short-term financial measures of performance and long-term motivating drivers of the IJVs. Dr Hasan contributed about 60% of the study, especially on the empirical side.
