I have been teaching for 10 years both in adult education and in five different university departments. The issue of power relations in these pedagogical environments has circulated, for me, around the issue of both my identity, and my academic fields of feminist theory and lesbian and gay studies. Unpredictable alliances, and unexpected antagonisms, have caused me many times to examine the peculiar projections that my lesbian identity provokes; I wish to sketch some of those phantasms here.
