Additional Information: The controversy over software patenting and its impact remains unabated. This paper draws on that analogy to assess the less studied field of digital copyrighting. It finds an overall `positive¿ effect of digital copyright laws on innovation, although the biggest impact (on P2P file-sharing) has raised a succession of further problems.
