Notes

Work based on experimental and simulation work done at University of Moratuwa under an ADB grant. It is very difficult to predict the distributions of temperature, velocity and combustion product concentrations within the cooking stove. The variation of stove efficiency with respect to boundary conditions is also unknown. These shortcomings have resulted in two major issues; namely, low overall stove efficiency and high emission levels. The main objective of the work is to find solutions to the above issues through modeling of combustion flow field within cooking stoves under varying boundary conditions. The flow field inside a wood-fired stove has been modeled using the k-¿ turbulence model and the flamelet model for combustion chemistry.
