Abstract

For soprano saxophone solo and string orchestra
This concerto is an 18-minute single span of music, although it is broken down into 3 sections - fast, slow, faster. The musical language relates to some of Butler's other pieces, notably Hootenanny, Songs and Dances from a Haunted Place, and American Rounds, all of which explore folk-derived materials and performing practices.
