Modernity, Modernism and the Aporias of Opera
The purpose of this essay is to argue that the conventional forms and dramaturgies of opera, upon which most composers writing in the genre still rely,are basedupon an aesthetic contradiction: a contradiction that renders the condition of modern operaessentially aporetic.
