Abstract

In an unprecedented reaction, the reduction of 2,4,6-tri-tert-butyl-1,3,5-triphosphabenzene over a potassium mirror in toluene resulted in the abstraction of P3- and generation of the 2,4,5-tri-tert-butyl-1,3-diphosphacyclopentadienide anion, P2C3Bu3t- (3). The potassium salt of this anion was characterized by an X-ray crystallographic study.
