Notes

The paper combines historical analysis of the earlier experience of Eastern European countries with contemporary issues of political economy, to argue that the recovery of those countries since the end of communism has been hampered by crude western economists¿ notions of the sources of `failure¿. Dr Hasan contributed the bulk of the work on political economy (market vs. state failure etc.).
