Papers discuss: ethnic euphemisms and racial echoes; the epistemology and iconography of colonial power in NW Zimbabwe; Afrikaner ethnicity; ethnic identity as performance - Namaqualand; historical narratives as political discourses of identity; ethnicity and federalism in KwaZulu/Natal; the rise and fall of Mangope in Bophuthatswana; and the experience of nation-building - some lessons for South Africa. -M.Amos
