Item Type: Conference or Workshop Item (Paper)
Additional Information: Originality: This paper describes an XML meta-data system for describing complex documents, that takes a wider view than the standards of the time. The motivation is allowing selection of data to reflect the context of use. A conceptual model of data elements, and flexible set of properties including semantics, is described, which maps to a model of alternative presentations of data and the structure of data. Rigour: The system of encoding is described in detail, with two case studies using maps and web pages. Significance: 2 external citations in google scholar. Described as a general approach meeting a need in context-aware adaptation of content in the textbook "Distributed Systems Concepts and Design" by Coulouris, Dollimore, Kindberg. The conference accepted 27% of submissions as research-track papers after full peer-review, and continues as an annual event now in its 8th year.
