Key challenges include: • Higher income countries dominate the research agenda yet publish the lowest proportion of research related to the SDGs • Few opportunities exist for knowledge transfer and capacity-building in low-income countries • There is less focus on complex underlying societal issues than on immediate technological solutions We also identified the following areas of opportunity: • Research in low-income countries is strongly related to SDGs • Some synergies exist between research on different SDGs • SDG-related research, especially on society-related SDGs, is more multidisciplinary and more likely to be used in policy and reported in the media than other types of research
