The heart of a satellite based navigation system are the oscillators that are required for precise timing. This paper seeks to examine the critical role that Space-Borne Oscillators play in improving Performance of Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) and Satellite-Based Augmentation Systems (SBAS). A case study of the NIGCOMSAT-1R navigation payload; the African contribution to the SBAS, which utilizes externalized 10 MHz Master Oscillators in a 3 X 4 hybrid array configuration assesses the effectiveness of Location Based Services utilizing Navigation for Emergency and Crisis management amongst other applications.
