Strike incidence and the business cycle in Ireland
Strike incidence equations are estimated for manufacturing strikes in Ireland from 1960 to 1989 using both Poisson and negative binomial regression models. A number of alternative business cycle measures are specified. The pro-cyclicity of strikes is confirmed in all cases and is invariant to the measurement of the cyclical component. The numerical size of the cyclical effect on strike activity is, however, quite small.
