Abstract

A new index assignment for vector quantisation with embedded redundancy is introduced. The combined vector quantisation and index assignment with embedded redundancy technique provides an efficient vector encoder, performing both the functions of source and channel coding. It is shown that it is superior to channel-optimised vector quantisation in terms of overall distortion and complexity
