Additional Information: This paper demonstrates a previously unknown mechanism that can lead to enhanced adaptation. The mechanism operates when environmental conditions forces changes in species range. The paper also provides support for the importance of Wrights Shifting Balance, an adaptive process that has recently received considerable attention.
