The microbiological hydroxylation of the sesquiterpenoid patchoulol by Mucor plumbeus

The microbiological hydroxylation of patchoulol by Mucor plumbeus gave the 5a- and 9a-hydroxy derivatives. The 5a-hydroxy compound was also obtained using Cephalosporium aphidicola and its structure was established by X-ray crystallography.
