Abstract

"Art of praying": Play, linguistic reflection and religion in Kafka's early works | How do gesture, linguistic reflection and theatrical narrative relate to religious rituals and texts in Kafka's early work? The present article examines this question through an analysis of Kafka's Conversation with the Supplicant in the context of fin-de-siècle Kunstreligion, as well as aestheticism and its critique. It argues that in the early Kafka art is neither a form of nor a substitution for religion but its areligious imitation
