Nichol, Kathy RomerKathy Romer, Pedro Viana, Michael WestThis poster contribution outlines XCS, a major serendipitous galaxy cluster survey that we intend to undertake using archival data taken by ESA's XMM-Newton X-ray satellite: further details can be found at the XCS WWW site (www.xcs-home.org) and in Romer et al. (2000). We describe the principal science drivers for cluster surveys, discuss the motivation for the XCS project design, and present our expectations for the properties of the catalogue resulting from XCS.
