Notes
Author's specific contribution was securing funding for the research; designing the research and commissioning academics to write specific chapters; to bring together the disparate chapters into a coherent whole and to co-edit the resulting book. The three co-authored chapters in section three offer a theoretical synthesis of the preceding material. The book has received very favourable reviews in both the UK and US, including those by leading academics in the field: Prof Stephen Brookfield (Minneapolis), Prof Phyllis Cunningham (Northern Illinois), Rod Purcell (Glasgow) and Prof Ruth Lister (Loughborough), a major research figure in the field and a significant influence on Coare's writing. Ian Martin (Edinburgh) also chose it as one of his three key books of the year in Adults' Learning. The book is a core text on a number of related UG and PG courses including those at Warwick, Edinburgh and BirkbeckFull text available
