Notes

Everyday Life and Cultural Theory was one of the first books to critically map a genealogy of everyday life, theory and practice, exploring a tradition of cultural theory reaching from Simmel through to de Certeau, that recognises the everyday as both central and problematic to understanding culture and society. Through close and contextual readings of primary material the book argues that this tradition, despite very real differences of inflection within it, can be thought of as a form of avant-garde cultural sociology. It has been influential within the field of cultural and media studies, being widely reviewed in academic journals and extensively cited in scholarly articles. The book was translated into Chinese in 2006 (Beijing: Commercial Press ISBN 986-7557-38-7).
