Additional Information: I created and supplied the rad50S mutant which is used in this study, engaged in extensive discussions with the first author and commented on the mansucript. Palindromes pose a threat to genomic stability. This publication describes the essential role of the Rad50 complex in palindrome induced mitotic recombination.
