This entry considers Sartre's status as an alleged author of erotic literature, concentrating - after some allusive references to his theatre and novels - upon the audacious short stories of "Le Mur" (The Wall, 1939), which enjoyed a "succes de scandale", earned him the Prix du Roman populiste of 1940, and began to make his reputation just before the outbreak of the Second World War.
