A new route to highly functionalized heterocyclic rings

journal contribution
posted on 2023-06-07, 19:21 authored by Philip J Parsons, Alexander J Waters, Daryl S Walter, Johnathan Board
A novel cascade reaction has been developed for the rapid construction of heterocyclic rings. The cyclization is thermally induced and does not involve the use of metal ions. This highly efficient construction of furans has been developed during studies directed toward the synthesis of the antibiotic lactonamycin.

Notes

All the synthetic work was done at Sussex and was directed by PJP who is principle author, one industrial collaborator. A new reaction has been discovered which leads to the formation of complex ring systems.
